The Constituent Assembly of India accepted Hindi, written in Devanagari script, as the official language of India on September 14, 1949. Officially, the first Hindi Day was celebrated on September 14, 1953. Hindi lecturer Mrs. Ruchira Hegde (teacher incharge) and the students of S.Y. D.El.Ed
organised Hindi Diwas 2023. Rev. Prof. Dr. Fr. Simão Diniz, Dr. Allan J. Abreu and Prof. Dr. Maria A. A. R. Fonseca were the guests invited for the function. Lighting of the Lamp ceremony was held wherein the guests along with Tr. Ruchira Hegde, Tr. Steffi A. Fernandes and the Class Representatives of both the D.El.Ed sections lit the lamp. The program began with a short prayer service conducted in Hindi followed by a prayer dance. Tr. Ruchira welcomed everyone and the program was declared open. A song on the national language was sung by students of S.Y. D.El.Ed. The hosts for the program were Miss. Aisha
Shaikh and Miss Rekha Gourannavar of S.Y. D.El.Ed.

To make the program more interesting and increase the enthusiasm in students , there were some competitions held which were Elocution competition wherein the participants had to speak on the topic which they had picked through lots. The topics were: NEP 2020, Crypto Currency, Chandrayan 3, Corruption etc. There were 2 prizes given where the 1 st place was won by Mast. Shivam Saroj of T.Y. B.Sc and 2 nd place was won by Miss Tasmiya Barudwale of F.Y. D.El.Ed. The other competition was Story telling competition wherein pictures were shown on the screen for a minute and then the participants had to narrate a story based on the pictures they saw for 2 minutes. Here, the first place was won by Miss. Neha of F.Y.B.Sc and the second place was won by Mast. Savio Sequeira of S.Y.D.El.Ed. Mrs. Manali Acharya, Librarian at SJVC & SJVIE, Mrs. Shashikala Poojary – Hindi teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Succor Higher Secondary School, Cortalim and Mrs. Sunita V. Kharde – Hindi teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Succor High School, Cortalim were the judges for both the
competitions. Certificates were distributed to all the participants.

In between there were some spot prizes kept related to Hindi language. Fr. Simão Diniz, Administrator of St. Joseph Vaz Educational Hub shared some of his thoughts on Hindi language and it’s importance. Dr. Allan J. Abreu performed a Hindi medley. A token of appreciation was given to the judges.

Hindi Diwas 2023 was indeed a successful event.
