The department of physical education and sports of St Joseph Vaz institute of education and department of physical education and sports of St Joseph Vaz College organised a tennis ball cricket match for the staff of St Joseph Vaz Educational Society and Our Lady of Perpetual Succor High School and Higher Secondary under the name Health Fiesta on 26th February 2022. The purpose of the event was to promote a healthy lifestyle and showcase the importance of recreational sports among the staff of the society and OLPS high school and higher secondary.
The match was played of 6 overs per innings. The day started with the address of Dr Allan Abreau the coordinator of D.El.Ed, Dr Maria Fonseca the Principal of the college and Fr Aiden the assistant parish priest of St Phillip and James church, Cortalim. In their address they encouraged the staff to play well and make exercise and fitness their daily routine in life
After winning the toss the D.El.Ed and OLPS staff chose to field first. Put into bat the B.Sc staff scored 53 runs in 6 overs. Siddharth Velip, Frazer Moraes and Dr. Dolrich Fernandes batted well for B.Sc while Francy was the star bowler for D.El.Ed Requiring 54 runs from 6 overs the D.El.Ed and OLPS started well with Marlon Pereira and Francisco Mendes giving a good start to the innings with their skillfull batting. This was followed by a sensible innings by Fr Aiden guiding the D.El.Ed and OLPS towards victory.
At the prize distribution ceremony Dr Alan Abreau the coordinator of D.El.Ed congratulated the staff for participating and playing enthusiastically. Dr Maria Fonseca the Principal of St Joseph Vaz college once appreciated the efforts of the department of physical education and sports in organising the event and also congratulated the staff for playing in a spirited and fair manner.
The best bowler award went to Francy Vaz, Siddharth Velip bagged the best batsman award and Francisco Mendes was awarded the player of the match for his outstanding performance.
