The department of physical education and sports of St Joseph Vaz institute of education and department of physical education and sports of St Joseph Vaz College organised a leg cricket match for the staff of St Joseph Vaz Educational Society under the name Health Fiesta on 12th February 2022. The purpose of the event was to promote a healthy lifestyle and showcase the importance of recreational sports among the staff of the society.
The staff were divided in to 2 teams. The match was played of 6 overs per innings. The day started with the address of Rev. Prof. Simao R. Diniz the administrator of St Joseph Vaz college. In his address he encouraged the staff to indulge in some sort of physical activity and lead a healthy lifestyle.
After winning the toss thge D.El.Ed staff chose to field first. Put into bat the B.Sc staff scored 37 runs in 6 overs. Inacio and Mervyn kicked well for B.Sc while Ryshla was the star bowler for D.El.Ed picking up 4 wickets. Requiring 38 runs from 6 overs the D.El.Ed started well with Dr Alan Abreau and Rev. Prof. Simao giving a good start to the innings with their skillfull kicking. This was followed by a blistering innings by Frazer guiding the D.El.Ed towards victory.
At the prize distribution ceremony Dr Alan Abreau the coordinator of D.El.Ed congratulated the staff for participating and playing enthusiastically. He too stressed about staying active and fit. Dr Maria Fonseca the Principal of St Joseph Vaz college appreciated the efforts of the department of physical education and sports in organising the event and also congratulated the staff for playing in a spirited and fair manner.
The best bowler award went to Ryshla Fernandes, Mervyn Rodrigues bagged the best kicker award and Fraser Moraes was awarded the player of the match for his outstanding performance.
The event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Infancio Correia. The event was jointly compered by Dr Alan Abreau and Dr Elroy Pinto.
