St. Joseph Vaz Educational Society was established in the year 2015 by the Church in Goa, in honour of St. Joseph Vaz, the first Saint from Goa to be canonised . St. Joseph Vaz himself was an educator par excellence who from 1651-1711 inspired many as an examplary teacher. The apostolate of education that he undertook more than three hundred years ago is very much relevant and applicable in today’s context. His foresight of opening Institutes and using Education for enlightening citizens as well as proclamation of the Good News is praiseworthy. He recognised that through education he could seek the transformation of individuals, as well as of society.

St. Joseph Vaz Institute of Education is a sister concern of the Diocesan Society of Education, the largest Educational Society running nearly 100 Educational Institutions in the State of Goa and providing quality education to the young minds studying in its Institutions. Diocesan Society of Education ( initially established in 1962 as “ Sociedade de Instrucao da Arquidiocese de Goa and Daman”) established in the year 1974 has continuously been striving to provide Spiritual, humanizing, liberating and quality education which has become a gateway to socio-cultural and economic development of persons and thereby of the nation.

With the starting of this instiutute of teacher education the St. Joseph Vaz Educational Society has taken the commitment to develop the skills of teacher trainees who will study in the portals of the Institute and thereby contribute to the growth of education in the State of Goa. The vision and mission statements as well as the goals of the Institute clearly envisages the same.
