The department of physical education and sports of St Joseph Vaz Institute of Education and St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim organized a table tennis tournament for staff working in institutes managed by Archdiocese Board of Education on 15th March 2023 at Sts. Philip and James Church Hall, Cortalim. The motive behind organizing such tournament was to give a platform to the staff to showcase their talents and promote a healthy lifestyle. In total 28 participants from all over the state competed against each other to claim the title. The final was played between Mr Alarico Antao of Infant Jesus Higher Secondary, Colva and Mr Rowan Colaso of Our Lady of Rosary, Fatorda

In the First match Joel Fernandes of St Xaviers High School Velim defeated Inacio Colaco of SJVC. In the second match Sachitanand of Nirmala institute of education defeated Mervin Rodrigues of SJVC. In the third match Diamond D’Souza of St Xaviers High School, Moira lost against Dr Melwin D’Souza of of SJVC. In the fourth match Alarico Antao of Infant Jesus Higher Secondary defeated Osbert Godinho of Our Lady of Destero high school, Vasco. In the fifth match Dr Fr Bolmax Pereira of SJVC defeated a very tough opponent Mr Jayawant Hommnawar of Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda. In the sixth match Archie Fernandes of Don Bosco College, Panaji defeated Mohan Gauns of Fr Agnel College, Pilar. In the seventh match Dr Fr Roman Rodrigues of Rosary College, Navelim defeated Sarvesh Parab of Our Lady of Destero high school, Vasco. The eight match saw Shekar Kerkar of St Xaviers High School, Moira  defeating Joston Cazdoz of Fr Agnel College. In the ninth match Fr Americo Rodrigues of St Bartholomew’s defeated Robinson Colaco of Rosary College, Navelim. In the tenth match Clifton Fernandes of Nirmala Institute of Education defeated Lusiano Rodrigues of Our Lady of Carmel High School, Curtorim. In the eleventh match Milind Anandan of Nirmala Institute of education defeated Nelson Antao of SJVC.  In the twelvth and the final match of first round Jesus Fernandes of Don Bosco College, Panaji defeated Jose Pereira of Our Lady of Destero High School, Vasco.

In the second round Mr Bony Vales of St Bartholomew’s High School, Chorao defeated Mr Joel Fernandes. Mr Sachitanand got the better of Dr Melwin in the fourteenth match. In the fifteenth match Mrt Alarico defeated Dr. Fr. Bolmax. In the sixteenth match Leroy Menezes of Our lady of Perpetual High School, Cortalim defeated Archie Fernandes. Dr Allan Abreu of SJVIE proved to be better against Dr Fr Roman. Fr Americo got the better of Shekar in the eighteenth match. In the nineteenth match Clifton lost against Milind. In the twentieth match Rowan Colaso of Our Lady of Rosary High school defeated Jesus Fernandes. In the quarter finals Bony, Alarico, Fr Americo and Rowan prevailed, defeating Sachitanand, Leroy, Allan and Milind respectively. In the  In a keenly contested match it was Alarico Antao who triumphed over his opponent. Earlier in the semi final, Alarico Antao defeated Mr Bony Vales of St Bartholomew’s High School, Chorao and Mr Rowan Colaso defeated Fr Americo Rodrigues also of St Bartholomew’s High School, Chorao.

The chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony was Rev. Dr. Simao Diniz the administrator of St Joseph Vaz Educational Society. In his speech he congratulated the winners and advised all the staff to live a healthy life. The other dignitaries present were Dr Allan Abreu the coordinator of St Joseph Vaz Institute of Education, Dr Maria Fonseca the principal of St Joseph Vaz College and Dr. Fr. Bolmax Pereira, Assistant Professor at St Joseph Vaz College. The winner and runner up received a trophy and cash prize.
